So, how does Jesse Faux make his videos?
In the beginning, I would record videos with a free-trial program called Bandicam. If you've been around YouTube, you will 100% recognize that name due to its watermark. You may also know it had a recording length cap of 10 minutes. The videos I made back then are still up on my channel now, and have a very home-made feel to them, since you can very clearly see that they were made by a child. It's fun to look back on them, since I myself and my video production skills are very different now. The most interesting part of those older videos is the absense of edits entirely. I would make cuts by physically pausing the recording, but that's it. Below is a sample of my recent work that I'm most proud of to get you accustomed if you aren't already.
Now that I edit my videos, I think a lot about how everything makes something more or less watchable. Background music is a big one for me. It needs to fit, but also not be intrusive. I feel I need to work on this at times, since songs are all leveled differently. Cutting things out of videos has also become second nature. Since my videos are more focused on entertainment, my motto is usually that if it isn't funny, make a cut. If the video is more about the adventure we're on, leaving in story beats and important context is a good deciding factor on what to cut out and what to leave in. Sound effects are such a big part of my videos as well- I love to use sounds to improve on a joke or even make a joke where there wasn't one originally, and picking the right one is sometimes really difficult. How I add sounds to my videos currently is by either grabbing them off of the internet, or splitting the audio from a video clip in my editing app. Did I mention it is an editing app? I use a free app on the appstore called VideoShop to edit all of my videos, and have since 2020. It isn't the most feature-packed editor, but it does just enough for me right now. I have a rather simplistic style, opting for less flashy edits and such. I will say though that the process of moving giant video clips from my PC over OneDrive so I can edit them on my phone has always been a hastle. I'm not willing to learn a new software juuust yet though!
